Advanced Surgical Treatments for Breast Cancer

At our breast care center, we offer comprehensive surgical options tailored to each patient’s needs. Our expertise in oncoplastic surgery sets us apart, ensuring not only cancer removal but also aesthetic and functional breast preservation.
Mastectomy
A mastectomy is the surgical removal of breast tissue to treat or prevent breast cancer. It may be performed on one breast (unilateral mastectomy) or both breasts (bilateral mastectomy).

Types of Mastectomies
  • Partial Mastectomy (Lumpectomy): Removes a tumor and a margin of healthy tissue.
  • Total Mastectomy (Simple Mastectomy): Removes all breast tissue while preserving the pectoral muscles.
  • Double Mastectomy (Bilateral Mastectomy): Removes both breasts to prevent or treat cancer.
  • Skin-Sparing/Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy: Preserves the skin and/or nipple for reconstruction purposes.
  • Mastectomy with Breast Reconstruction: Can be performed simultaneously or at a later stage for cosmetic restoration.
  • Modified Radical Mastectomy: Removes all breast tissue and underarm lymph nodes.
  • Radical Mastectomy: Removes all breast tissue, lymph nodes, and pectoral muscles (used in rare cases when cancer has spread).

Breast Conservation Surgery
Breast-conserving surgery, also known as a lumpectomy or partial mastectomy, removes only the tumor and a small margin of surrounding healthy tissue while preserving most of the breast. It is a preferred option for many women with early-stage breast cancer, offering effective treatment while maintaining breast appearance.

  • Preserves the natural shape and appearance of the breast.
  • Often combined with oncoplastic techniques for better cosmetic outcomes.
  • Most women will need radiation therapy after surgery to destroy any remaining cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence.
  • Suitable for cases where the tumor is small and localized.

Oncoplasty
Oncoplastic breast surgery combines oncologic principles with plastic surgery techniques to preserve the breast’s appearance and function while ensuring effective cancer treatment. This approach enhances both medical and aesthetic outcomes by reshaping the breast after tumor removal.

Techniques in Oncoplastic Surgery
  • Volume Displacement: The tumor is removed through a partial mastectomy, and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped for a natural look.
  • Volume Replacement: After a partial mastectomy, tissue from another part of the body is used to reconstruct the breast immediately.
  • Volume Reduction: In cases where a breast reduction is suitable, the tumor is removed while reshaping the breast for better symmetry.
  • Local Advancement Flap: The remaining breast tissue is repositioned after tumor removal to avoid indentations or deformities.
  • Bilateral Breast Lift (Mastopexy): Both breasts are lifted and reshaped to ensure a balanced, symmetrical appearance.
  • Skin-Sparing Mastectomy: The breast skin is preserved to facilitate natural-looking reconstruction after mastectomy.

Benefits of Oncoplastic Surgery
  • Maintains breast shape and symmetry.
  • Reduces the psychological impact of breast cancer surgery.
  • Enhances patient satisfaction and quality of life.
  • Provides a more natural breast contour.

Oncoplastic breast surgery offers a personalized, advanced approach that prioritizes both effective treatment and a natural breast appearance.
